rut

i swear, setting my new shop up seems to have used up all my energy! i'm in a big of a creative rut ladies & gentlemen. i'm still drawing (this group has been an incredible daily exercise) but my brain seems to be needing a rest regarding coming up with new ideas. i'm trying not to let it annoy me however, especially since october is looking choc-full of things to do that aren't drawing-based.

anyway, i thought i'd make it known that i'm still alive. if you have any advice that you'd like to share about what you do when you're experiencing a creative drought, do share!

i find not focusing on it at all is a good way to deal with it. Instead do anything else, other things needing done or just give yourself time to yourself to watch films, cook new things and such. You'll eventually get re-inspired without warning. It's a good chance for some time out. xxx

it's true, & i'm trying to use it as time out after spending most spare moments in august making things. thanks lovely.

Letting the brain go to mush for awhile is a good idea (for me anyway)
I think I like the analogy of how we "break our brains" by using them up too much. The only way is to let them go to mush (by watching TV, not doing anything that requires deep concentration, etc) so that they can again be moldable.

Oh I hope I made some sense. Because right now I'm letting my brain go to mush a little too. ;)

oh it makes sense. i've not been pushing myself, art-wise, in the hope that whatever has gone wrong will mend itself. i had a huge urge to draw earlier, but couldn't because alas i was at work, but that's a good start!

haha I like that brain mush analogy. Perhaps try being creative in a way you are not used to?? Instead of drawing, take up collage or making music just to mix and brew the creative juices.

hay, thanks for your advice! unfortunatly, i think part of this rut is due to lack of time to try & sketch my way out of it. :( my day job is kind of sucking all the energy out of me at the moment. hoping that when my boyfriend & i set up our new workspace that the creativity will get flowing again!
