complain

firstly, i'd like to reiterate that i am very grateful to be a part of this book. seriously, i cannot wait to get my copy & see my work in print, as well as all indulge in all the other awesome ideas & concepts within. but i can't help but have a whinge here: is this all they could come up with for the cover of this years d&ad student awards annual? c'mon! it's the thirtieth edition, a milestone of sorts! that typeface! the blandness! i'm disappointed. fair enough, pentagram (the designers) want the work inside to be what stands out, not the book itself, but i really hope that the inside design makes up for the outside.

whinge over. i couldn't help myself.

That is indeed quite rubbish. :( Even I could've done that!

I see what you are saying about the crappy font-ness but i do kinda like the 'simple as that' idea. kinda a bit minimalist arty farty though i guess.

sally: yes, i suppose most of us could. in a sense, i feel most wouldn't, because it's *too* simple. but still.

alan: yeah, it makes sense in that way, in that it's straight forward, which is why i mentioned why they did it like that. i just feel that such a big well-known company has the ability to afford so much more than just a plain white book. i mean, even perhaps some sort of effect on the text, perhaps pressed or embossed? it just looks too simple & boring to me, & there's so many possibilities.

I agree Jen, it seems like it's just plonked in the middle of the cover too. If simple was what they were going for, even just a nicer font and better positioning of the text might have worked a bit better.

Still... in the book :) xxx

I totally agree! Just because you say "I'm going to make a simplictic look" doesn't mean you do nothing! There are ways of being simplictic.

yes yes, there are. it's a shame they didn't utilise them. ):
