sunday roast

i've been absent from proper blogging for a little while thanks to working lots. hopefully that'll turn around soon, & i'll post more than just images. but for now, rather than post my own images, i'm going to post some work by other people. hopefully i might get into the habit of a weekly (perhaps monthly, knowing me) post featuring a selection of artists, both new & old to me, that i can share with you. i'm thinking of calling it sunday roast. why sunday roast? well, i plan on posting on sundays, & the images will be hot stuff! also, i always looked forward to sunday dinner when i lived with my family. maybe these posts will be something to look forward to.
first up: monsieur ruefive (not french though). i'm not sure when i first came across his work, but i'll bet it was something to do with analogue. with his figurative work, i tend to feel like i've interrupted something, like it's a bit of a freeze-frame during a crucial moment. with his pattern/text based work (which also creeps into the figurative stuff) i just enjoy how well the selected colours, shapes & letters fit together. he's a sound chap in real life, & handy with a camera (like, twenty or so of them).

mr fancy pants himself, will bryant. will's work seems to take the best parts of the past few decades (the colours, shapes, typography & lingo) & roll them into one. so much of his work is like a two-dimensional party, & my eyes are invited, & they want to dance.

erin gilkes aka altantic treefox. erin is a sweetheart, who does sweet cross-stitching! alot of erin's needle-works are adaptions of old patterns she finds, & they're awesome. i also love erin's drawings, some of which are like parts of a story, where you're given snippets of information & have to work out the rest for yourself.

another person where i can't recall when i would have first seen his work, but never mind; adrian johnson. adrian has that awesome 50's-inspired style going on, & he works it well. i love the blocks of colours & how he uses space, & the texture that makes it looks like he just whipped up a screen-print with no fuss involved. he even has a sunday roast piece!
